SOS Cats cats are rescued from many situations in Cairns .. our goal is to rehome unloved cats into new loving homes .. we work closely with the local laws officers of the pound .. vets and are often supported and assisted by the local animal refuges operating in the area.
To end the unnecessary killing of unwanted and abused cats and provide them with safe loving and permanent homes.
These policies need to give us the most effective opportunity to rescue and rehome cats and to be a sustainable organization that is engaged with both Council and Community.
• SOSCats is not a shelter .. our rescued cats are fostered until they are resocialised and rehomed
• No overcrowding .. 2 cats maximum per home
• SOSCats believes in No Kill and with that belief comes the responsibility to solving the problem of over population .. killing homeless animals is obviously not in their best interest and provides only a short term solution to a human problem.
• All of these unwanted animals once had homes .. we must educate owners to the importance of providing care and responsible guardianship to these cats for the duration of their life.
• All cats are desexed .. vet checked .. vaccinated and microchipped when adopted .. however we cannot guarantee the absence of any underlying health problems to which some breeds are prone.
• Adoption fees assist with the costs of desexing .. vacinating .. microchipping and health checks at the vet.
• We believe that cats are individuals and some are happy when integrated into a family ..others prefer to be the companion pet of one person only .. often we recommend adopting two cats as this gives them a play partner and helps with the well being of the animal.
• We do not allow the purchase of cats as gifts for others without their direct involvement.
• All SOSCats are welcome back into our foster care program should your circumstances change.
